Liverpool boxing community pays last respects at Ernie Lawrence funeral

The funeral of Liverpool boxing legend, Ernie Lawrence, is being held today (January 14th).

A prominent figure in the local boxing community, Ernie Lawrence founded Golden Gloves ABC, was a coach at Wavertree, Roseheath and Halewood boxing club and refereed hundreds of fights between highly successful boxers.

He passed away suddenly at the age of 81.

Lawrence dedicated his career to providing support to the youth of Toxteth, through the establishment of Golden Gloves ABC boxing club, formerly Lodge Lane ABC.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 2pm, followed by Allerton Cemetery at 3pm and finally Kensington Fields Community Club. All are invited to pay their respects.
